Clutch Pro USB-C portable charger after 1 year of daily use

Clutch Charger 1-Year Review: 365 Days of Daily Carry (2026)

The 1-Year Review

365 days. One charger.

We've carried the Clutch Pro every single day for a year. Here's everything we learned — including what wore down, and why we still pick it up every morning.

The short answer

Yes — a year later, it's still in our pocket every day.

Battery health sits at ~92% of original capacity. Cosmetic wear is minimal (matte finish hides everything). MagSafe still snaps clean. The built-in USB-C cable still works. It's the rare gadget that stays in daily rotation for a full year without being replaced.

The setup

How we actually used it

For the past 365 days, the Clutch Pro has lived in a front jeans pocket, a slim leather wallet, a clutch purse, a work backpack, a carry-on for 14 flights, a gym bag, and a festival kit. It's been dropped from waist-height onto concrete twice. We've recharged it ~200 times overnight and another ~50 via a portable wall plug while traveling.

Primary phone: iPhone 15 Pro. Also tested with AirPods Pro 2 (USB-C case) and a Galaxy S25.

The journey

365 days, by the numbers

Day 1Unboxed. 100% capacity. Matte finish, snug USB-C port, firm MagSafe snap.
Day 30First travel test — flew with it three times. No scratches, no issues.
Day 90First drop onto concrete from waist-height. Tiny ding, no functional damage.
Day 180Halfway check: ~96% battery health. Cable still seats firmly. MagSafe unchanged.
Day 250Recharge port loosens slightly. Cables still seat, but the snug new-port feel is gone.
Day 365Battery health ~92%. Still our daily-carry charger. Still no regrets.

Lithium polymer cells typically degrade to 80% after 500 full cycles. After ~250 cycles, the Clutch Pro is well within healthy range — and still delivers a full iPhone 15 charge with reserve.

What held up

Better than we expected

The built-in cable

Integrated cables usually fail. Hundreds of uses later, the USB-C tail still seats firmly. No dropouts, no angle-dependent charging.

MagSafe magnet strength

Slept with it snapped to the phone, tossed it in a bag still attached. The magnet snaps with the same authority on day 365 as day one.

The 6mm body

Took drops, pocket compression, even being sat on without bending or cracking. The metal frame structure pays off.

What wore over time

The honest stuff

Recharge USB-C port

Slightly looser than day one. Cables still seat, but the snug new-port feel is gone. Functional, just worth noting.

Matte texture on the cable tail

The plastic at the strain point has a slight gloss now where it used to be matte. Friction wear. Cosmetic only.

One slow battery LED

One of the four LEDs occasionally takes an extra second to light. Not a functional issue — just a sign of component wear.

A year in, our slate still looks new. The matte finish hides fingerprints, scuffs, and whatever happens after a long travel day.

$0.14

$49.99 spread across a year of daily use. Cheaper than a coffee. More used than a coffee.

A year later

What we'd tell day-one you

Buy two. One in your daily color (we'd say slate), and one in a contrast color for gifting. Three of the people we showed the Clutch to over the year bought one themselves. The three reactions we heard most:

"Wait, that's a power bank?"
"How thin is that?"
"I need that."

It's the rare product where carrying it organically sells more of them.

The 1-year verdict.

A year of daily use, ~250 recharge cycles, 14 flights, two drops onto concrete. Battery health at ~92%. No structural failures. No regrets. If you're considering one — yes, still worth it. If anything, more worth it than the day-one review suggests.

Questions answered

Frequently asked

How long does the Clutch Charger last?

Based on 1-year testing, the Clutch Charger maintains approximately 92% of its original 5,000 mAh capacity after 365 days of daily use and ~250 charge cycles. Lithium polymer batteries in this category typically degrade to 80% capacity after 500 cycles — the Clutch is well within healthy range.

Does the built-in cable fail over time?

After 1 year of daily use, our Clutch's built-in USB-C cable shows minor cosmetic wear at the fold point but no electrical or seating issues. No charging dropouts or angle-dependent failures, which are common with cheaper integrated cables.

Does the MagSafe magnet weaken over time?

No. After 365 days of being snapped to and detached from an iPhone hundreds of times, the magnet strength feels identical to day one. MagSafe ring magnets are passive and don't degrade with normal use.

Is it still worth $49.99 after a year?

Yes. The Clutch held up across drops, daily pocket carry, 14 flights, and ~250 recharge cycles without functional failure. Spread across daily use, it works out to roughly $0.14 per day — cheaper than most subscriptions, with a charger you actually use every day.

Which version should I buy — USB-C or Lightning?

USB-C is the right pick for iPhone 15, iPhone 16, iPhone 17, and all modern Android phones. Lightning is for iPhone 14 and older. The USB-C model is $49.99; Lightning is $39.99.

Is it TSA-approved for travel?

Yes. At 5,000 mAh (~18.5 Wh), the Clutch Charger is well within TSA's 100 Wh limit for carry-on batteries. It must travel in your carry-on bag, not checked luggage — standard for all lithium battery devices.
